Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment was contracted as the licensed operator of the casino in September 2019. Hard Rock was shut down in April 2020 to renovate and rebrand the property as Mohegan Sun Casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. Grand Opening January 15, 2021. Mohegan Sun Casino will open at the time Virgin Hotels Las Vegas opens January 15, 2021. Mohegan Sun is an American casino, with 364,000 square feet (33,800 square meters) of gambling space. Operated by the Mohegan Tribe, it is located on 240 acres (97 ha) of reservation land along the banks of the Thames River in Uncasville, Connecticut. Renamed the Connecticut Sun, the team was relocated to Uncasville, Connecticut, where they are managed by Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE) and play home games inside the Mohegan Sun Arena. Each year after an April training camp, they play a 34 game season (17 at home and 17 away) that lasts from May to August.
